A Gugulethu man will appear in the Athlone Magistrate’s court on Monday after he was arrested in possession of dagga worth R1.8 million.
The 22-year-old was arrested at around 2pm on Thursday at a house in KTC by the South African Police Service’s National Intervention Unit, after receiving information of illegal drug activities.
Police spokesman November Filander said: “When executing the search at the identified house, the members found several 5 kg bags and two plastic containers, filled with dagga. Inside the bags and containers were loose and packed dagga with an estimated street value of R1.8 million.”
He said the dagga would be kept in the evidence room. It would be marked, sent for analysis and kept as evidence for the case. Once the case had gone through the necessary procedure in court it would then be subsequently destroyed.
