Big week for Bridges for Music

Bridges for Music, a non-profit organization that supports electronic music development in developing countries, intends to build the music school in Langa in 2015.

The organization that raises global awareness about local issues through music has teamed up with Seed Experiences to raise funds to build the music school, which will be the second one in Cape Town that is run by the organisation.

Designed by Y Tsai Studios in Cape Town, the main goal of the school is to become a creative hub where young and talented individuals are able to pursue their dreams and develop their skills through a shared passion for music.

It also aims to become a landmark in the community. Lectures will be given on aspects of music production, graphic design, basic internet usage and video editing. The school will also have specific production facilities with the latest equipment donated by the partners of Bridges for Music. The school will also feature an outdoor area which will be used as an events space for both the school and the community for workshops, screenings and events. It is hoped the space will become a nest for all young artists, not only from Langa, but from other townships around the Cape Flats.

Seed Experiences (owners of Rocking the Daisies, We Are One Colour Festival, and Sonar Cape Town) announced on Monday that as of this week any industry professionals and companies who request complimentary tickets to their events will need to pay a percentage of the ticket prices before receiving them. This money will then be put towards the school’s building fund. No organization will receive free tickets from now on.

Shortly after announcing this, the two organizations launched a 24-hour global competition where the grand prize was a VIP experience at next year’s Tomorrowland, the world’s biggest electronic dance music festival.

As part of the package, the winner gets to take a friend along and they will spend five days at the festival in a grand tent, flights and transport included. They will get to hang out with the likes of drum and bass sensation Skrillex and his entourage, followed by a meet and greet with some of the renowned musicians scheduled to perform at next year’s event.
