Langa rugby club holds on against CPUT
Busy Bees Rugby Club of Langa hosted Cape Peninsula University for Technology (CPUT) on Saturday. Both teams are in the City Region League and hope to be promoted to the higher Super C league.
On an overcast day, the first half was very tight with neither team going over the try line. In the second half both teams changed tactics and played more attacking rugby. The game finished with a Busy Bees 15-10 victory.
Busy Bees Coach Hilton Petinger said, “We put ourselves under a lot of pressure by playing their game. In the second half we changed our game plan and played tighter. I’m not too happy we kicked a lot of balls. And that is not how we want to play if we are to be promoted out of this competition.”
Anga Nika the skipper of the Bees felt it was a good game. “We needed to collect points and we did just that. Busy Bees is a big team and very well known we want to take it out of this division we are playing in at the moment,” he said.
CPUT captain Clinton Ruiters said, “We are playing together for the first time and we are a young team but we played well together. We are hoping to be on top of the league by the end of the season, as young as we are.”
In two earlier games Busy Bees’ second team beat CPUT 25 - 22 in a closely fought contest, while CPUT’s third team won the first game of the day against Busy Bees third team 12 - 3.
There was drama in one of the earlier games when a goal crossbar fell, injuring three players. The game had to be abandoned, but luckily the players, who were treated on the field, were not seriously injured and later joined their teammates in the stands.
